Training for Surf City

This morning, Karyn and I took a bike ride down the coast. Actually, we first rode up the coast to Natural Bridges and then down the coast. We took our standard route to Capitola and then continued down to Rio Del Mar. We returned on basically the same route. It ended up being a 30-mile ride over a relatively flat course. The whole route can be found here.

For a variety of reasons, Karyn was not able to ride this weekend, so Sunday she asked me if I could ride today. I was a little nervous, since I had just taken a 60+ mile bike ride the day before. I was concerned that my legs would not be rested by today. But I went ahead and agreed to the ride. My legs were fine. It was a relatively fast, fun ride. And my legs feel pretty good tonight. One of the nice things about getting into shape is that you recover quicker.

Several of us are signed up for the Surf City Century on October 1st. We will be taking the 100K (60-mile) route. I feel very well prepared for this ride. I did fine last Saturday, when I rode 60 miles with only one stop. And to do a 30-mile ride just a few days later is great. Several of us are planning to take our final training ride next Saturday for 40-50 miles. If I can do 130-140 miles in just over a week, then I should have no problems with the 100k ride.

Looks like a good ride this morning. Next time you and Karyn ride past my work, stop in and say "hi". :)

Sounds like fun. We'll stop in the next time that we are in the area.
