Trip to Spokane

Last week, we went to Spokane to visit my Dad and Joyce. We had a really good time. It was a quiet and restful vacation. We ate out a lot, got a bunch of sleep and most importantly, I completely forgot about work for an week. It was very relaxing.

This trip re-enforced my appreciation of travel by private jet. On a private jet, it is probably a 2-3 hour flight from Watsonville to Spokane. It took us 8 hours to travel from our home to my Dad's home. Plus the hassle of the security checks, the canceled flight in Seattle, waiting around the airport, the cramped seating, the lady with the screeching baby, the meager snacks ...

By the way, Barbara says that she will have to raise the rent on the cottage, to be able to buy me a jet for Xmas. Hmm, it would probably have to go to about $50,000/month. Do you know anyone interested in renting a cottage for a bit above market value? :-)


As you can see from the picture above, there were still some fall colors. Since we were late in the season, most of the trees had lost all of their leaves, but a few were still pretty colorful. My Dad told me that I should have been there a few weeks earlier. However, since we live in
an area where the colors don't really change much in the fall, we appreciated it anyway.


Coeur d'Alene is about 25 miles from Spokane. One day, my Dad and I went to explore the town and the lake. The whole area is very scenic. We spent some time in one area which has many old stately homes on the lake. They have a great view.


We also visited a country club which was on the lake. They had one hole that had a floating green! Players tee off from land and try to hit the ball out onto the green which is floating in the lake about 150 yards out. If you are skillful (or lucky) enough to hit the green, then you take a small boat out to putt. Since the green is floating, they can use motor boats to push the green back to shore for maintenance. Pretty interesting.
