Seascape Ride

Last Sunday, I went with Karyn and a few friends for a ride in the Seascape area. Several of the riders had not ridden recently, so we selected a relatively flat ride. We started in front of the Palapas restaurant. We rode back on Seascape Road to San Andreas Road. We followed San Andreas Road out to Beach Road and then returned by the same route. It was a nice flat ride for about 14.5 miles.

I had ridden a pretty hard ride just two days before, so my legs were tired when I began. So I was pretty happy that it was a flat ride as well. For the last few rides, my back wheel has not seemed right. It seems to ride a little rougher than in the past. Also, when going downhill, it seems to wobble some. When I slow down and take a closer look, it seems fine. On Sunday, the wobble was pretty bad. One of the other riders commented that it wobbled as much as a quarter inch, which is not good. We discussed it and decided that it was ok to finish the ride, but I should take it into the bike shop after the ride.

Later that afternoon, I took the bike in and the mechanic was able to true the wheel. He is not sure what went wrong, it felt like a broken spoke, but all the spokes seemed fine. He also adjusted several other items on the bike and it now rides really smoothly. I can really tell the difference and I cannot believe that I did not take it in sooner. The best part was that he was able to make all of these adjustments for $15! It always amazes me how cheap bike repairs can be. When I take my car in, it usually costs several hundreds and maybe thousands before they are through with it.

The route can be found here. Note that for some reason, the program drew the route and then added a straight line from the starting point to the half way point. I am not sure why it did this or how to get rid of it, so you can just ignore the straight red line.
