Academy Awards Predictions
Earlier this month, I gave opinions on the major academy awards. Since then I have seen a few more movies and I thought I would predict who will win the major awards. I will also select who I think deserves the award.
Best Supporting Actor
I think this is an easy one. Christian Bale in The Fighter was great. I predict that he will win the award, I think he deserves the award and it was my favorite performance.
Best Supporting Actress
This one is a little tougher. When I last talked about this one, I had Melissa Leo from The Fighter and Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit tied. I still don't know who I think deserves the award more. However I think Melissa Leo will win the award. If Leo wins, it might be interesting to hear her acceptance speech. I have read that she is very pro-union and she might say something about the shenigans in Wisconsin.
Best Actor
Earlier I had Colin Firth (The Kings Speech) slightly ahead of Jeff Bridges (True Grit). As time has passed, I now think Firth is the clear leader. If nothing else, the role is more of a stretch for him. As I mentioned before, Bridges has played many similar roles. So I would say that Firth will win the award and I think he most deserves it.
Best Actress
My opinion has not changed on this one. I think Natalie Portman (Black Swan) deserves the award and will win the award. However, my favorite performance was given by Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone).
Best Picture
Another one where my opinion has not changed. I think the King's Speech will win the award (also best director) and probably deserves it. My favorite movies were True Grit and The Fighter closely followed by Winter's Bone.
Miscellaneous
I really liked Toy Story 3 and I expect that it will win the Animated Feature Film award. A couple of nights ago, we saw Exit Through The Gift Shop and I would not be surprised if it won the Best Documentary (Feature). I have not seen the other documentaries, so I am not sure how well it will do. It is a very interesting film. It follows several street artists. I thought these guys were just graffitti vandals, but some of these guys are really good. Some of them have created galleries of their work. One guy (banksy) is very well known in the art world. Some of his works have been auctioned for over $500K! These pieces are thought to be collector-level Modern Art. I won't give it away, but I found the ending to be very surprising. Anyway, I enjoyed the documentary and I expect that it will win the oscar.
