Shades of Gray

Just some random thoughts today. Sometimes when trying to make a key decision in my life, I see all the shades of gray. I get very frustrated and struggle trying to make these decisions. However, others may see these same decisons as black and white. It is an easy decision for them. I often I wish that all of my decisions would be black and white.

But wait, I don't think that it is that simple. I would bet that everyone sees some issues as black and white and some issues with shades of gray. For example, I have very strong feelings about how to treat others. I very rarely get frustrated trying to decide how to treat another person and I am very confident of the correctness of my decision.

It is also interesting that on black and white issues, I can not understand why others do not see it the same way that I do. I get very frustrated with people who treat others poorly (according to my black and white answer of how people should be treated). "How could person X treat person Y that way? What was person X thinking?"

So, on gray scale issues, I have a lot of internal frustration trying to make a decision. However I am very accepting of other's opinions on these issues. On black and white issues, it easy for me to make a decision. However, I have a lot of external frustration with other's opinions.

I am not sure what the moral of this story is (however that has never stopped me from making something up!) I guess that I should be more understanding when I see a different opinion on a decision that is black and white to me. Maybe the decision is on the gray scale for that person, and they had great difficulty making the decision. Or maybe the person came from a different culture, where the black and white answer is different from my black and white answer. Hopefully, this would make me more accepting of others and reduce my frustration level.
