A Thrilling Game!

A tough loss by the Oregon Ducks tonight. Oregon has been awful all year long. At the end of the season, their record was 13-17. And their play has been worse then their record. They have consistently lost to some truly awful teams. Fans have been screaming for the coach to be fired all year long.

After the regular season is complete, the PAC10 holds a post-season championship tournament. On Wednesday, the Oregon Ducks beat an even more awful washington state cougars team (no huge surprise here). Last night the Ducks beat a very strong washington huskies team. The huskies were ranked 13th in the nation. Early in the game, the Ducks star player was thrown out of the game. He was replaced by a walk-on player who did not even play in the previous 16 of 18 games. The walk on player made some huge plays to inspire the team to a great win.


The leading scorer in these two games was a kid named Champ Oguchi (#25 in the picture to the left). In the first 11 games of the PAC10 season, he averaged 4 points a game. Some games he was never even brought off of the bench. In other words, he was too bad to play for an awful team. Out of total desperation, the coach finally gave Champ some playing time in the 12th game. Since that time, Champ has led the team in scoring. Now the coach hardly ever takes him out of the game! In the last 7 games, he has averaged 37 minutes a game out of a 40 minute game.

Tonight the Mighty Ducks took on the cocky california golden bears. The Ducks star player (who was thrown out of the last game) was suspended for the entire game. The walk-on barely played in the game, however Oguchi came on strong in the first half, leading the team in points. The Ducks quickly built a double-digit lead. They were 16 points ahead with 5 minutes left in the first half. The lousy bears clawed their way back into the game and were only 5 points down at the half time. The slimy bears actually pull into the lead midway through the second half. It looked bad for the Mighty Ducks. They were in their third game in three days. Fatigue was starting to set in. The Mighty Ducks somehow find a way to pull back into the lead. The lyin', cheatin' bears tie up the game with 40 seconds left to play. The Mighty Ducks make a huge basket to surge into the lead with 12 seconds to play. It is down to the final play and ... the TV goes blank to give a thunderstorm warning!! Oh, who cares about a little storm at this time! Give us back the game! By the time the TV comes back, the game is tied in overtime. No idea how the stinkin' bears tied up the game.

The game stays tied up, in the first overtime, and we go to the second overtime. The Mighty Ducks are running on fumes. Your reporter is exhausted and is running out of adjectives to describe the bears! The evil bears finally grind down the Mighty Ducks to win the game 91-87. The Mighty Ducks are so exhausted that they can barely stand, in the last overtime. A thrilling game by the Mighty Ducks.
