Disc Golf at CSUMB

I was able to take the first week of November as a vacation week. Since Barbara had to work, Ben and I decided to spend the week exploring local disc golf courses. We decided to visit courses within a hour of Santa Cruz.

Last Saturday (Halloween Day) we went to play disc golf on two courses on the Cal State, Monterey Bay campus. This campus is on land that used to be Fort Ord. It was fun to wander around the abandoned military base.

The first course we played was the Cypress course. It was located between some abandoned military buildings. The buildings looked like they were some kind of apartments. I have read that when the wind picks up, you get eerie whistling and howling, which would have been appropriate on Halloween day, but it was pretty calm when we played. The course was more of a beginner or intermediate course. Not that we played it that well, but it was fun.



Next we played the Oaks course. This was a much more challenging and fun course. You play through the trees and sometimes, you will come across some type of man made structure. We came across a ropes course that I am sure was torture for generations of new soldiers.



We came across two abandoned baseball fields. They are just in the middle of the woods, no roads leading to them, they are just out there, complete with electronic scoreboards.



We also came across a piano with a tree growing through it. Again in the middle of the woods. We did not play that well, but it was a very fun course. We were always wondering what surprise was in store on the next hole. Pictures from these courses can be found here.
